Abstract : This thesis sought to determine how in-house research projects are selected at the U.S. Air Force Wright Aeronautical Laboratories (AFWAL). The problem was explored by studying ten aspects of the research project selection process. This analysis was accomplished by using a combination of personal and telephone interviews. Ten individuals from each of the four AFWAL Laboratories were interviewed. The results illustrated that few of the respondents used a formal decision method model when selecting research projects. Most of the in-house projects selected at AFWAL are chosen via a consensus of agreement between the various levels of management in each laboratory.
