Abstract : An octane number requirement rating workshop was sponsored by the Coordinating Research Council May 7-11, 1984, in Phoenix, Arizona. The objective of the workshop was to improve the application of the CRC E-15 Technique for Determination of Octane Number Requirements of Light-Duty Vehicles to provide consistent results with vehicles equipped with knock sensors, turbochargers, and various transmission configurations such as torque converter lockups, four-speed overdrives, and five-speed manuals. Training was accomplished through seminars and demonstrations, and was verified with actual track testing using the E-15 rating technique and appropriate equipment.
