Abstract : This report describes the results and data formats for a study to investigate three-dimensional internal kinematics of the human shoulder complex, individual vertebrae and the pelvis in unembalmed cadavers by means of stereoradiography. The motion is measured by tracking three-dimensional displacements of multiple radio opaque targets imbedded in the clavicle, scapula, sternum, humerus, a number of vertebrae, and the pelvis. The motion is produced by repositioning the cadavers to produce various degrees of spinal flexion and extension approximating different seated positions. To produce motion in the shoulder complex, the upper arm was moved in adduction and abduction. Sufficient targets were tracked on each of the motion segments to describe six-degree-of-freedom motion for each. In this study, data were collected on three cadavers and analyzed to provide descriptions of motion by position, vectors of targets imbedded with respect to anatomical landmarks and screw axis parameters both expressed with respect to an external fixed reference system and to the adjacent motion segment. A detailed description is provided of the data formats used in generating a magnetic tape, containing the analyzed experimental data, for the Air Force Aerospace Medical Research Laboratory. Keywords: Anatomical landmark, Stereophotogrammetry, Three-dimensional reference, Kinematics, and Skeletal.
