Abstract : Picosecond heating and cooling experiments on silicon surfaces are reported. The surfaces are probed by a picosecond pulse, following the heating pulse, as a function of wave length, time delay and energy fluence. Picosecond laser-induced transformations of modulated metal films extend the glass formation range. New glassy alloys have been formed.
