Abstract : This study is concerned with the use of a centrifuge as an experimental device on which free-field blast parameters could be evaluated. Free-field normal stress, created by the detonation of simulated high-explosive charges, was recorded within a sand medium. A series of experiments was concerned with the measurement of free-field normal stress, created by exploding buried charges. Another test series was concerned with the free-field normal stress beneath a concrete burster slab. The results of this study indicate that a centrifuge can be used as a simulator on which free-field blast effects can be evaluated. (Author)
