Abstract : Lead and chromate-free waterborne primers were formulated to coat ferrous and non-ferrous substrates. A one part waterborne primer based on a carboxylated aliphatic urethane was developed for steel and aluminum. The urethane was equal to the 117 wash primer in most of the areas where they were compared. An aqueous primer based on an amine-functional acrylic resin crosslinked with epoxy was formulated to coat magnesium. (Author)
