Abstract : This report presents the results of the Phase I study to identify and describe geophysical techniques which can be advantageously applied to shallow geologic and aquifer analysis. For clarification, shallow is defined to mean depths less than 300 feet. With the exception of radar, none of the identified techniques are inherently limited to this range. Included in the report is a discussion of the geologic features and conditions which affect or control groundwater movement. Following this discussion is an identification of traditional and developmental surface and borehole geophysical techniques, not to include multispectral imagery or aerial photography, which can be employed to qualify and quantify these features and conditions. Also included is a description of each applicable geophysical technique consisting of field procedures, equipment, and data processing. Additionally, an evaluation of each technique in terms of effectiveness and cost is provided. (Author)
