Abstract : The feasibility of a computer based Information/Training Support System for Operational Patrol Squadrons is examined in detail. The historical development and evolutionary trends of such a system are reviewed, current initiatives and projects are explained and evaluated, and user requirements are analyzed in order to make recommendations for future development. The Aviation Training Support System (ATSS), Naval Aviation Logistics Command Management Information System (NALCOMIS), and proposed Portable Logistics System (PLS) are cited as possible developmental paths for future systems. These paths are evaluated in terms of Patrol Squadron requirements, and are presented, either singularly or in combination, as feasible alternatives. This thesis serves as a comprehensive reference for decision makers involved in systems development within the United States Navy Patrol Aviation Community. (Author)
