Abstract : Passive solar heating systems can supply a major portion of a house's heating load if properly designed. The four basic concepts used are direct gain, thermal storage in wall or roof, solar greenhouse and convective loop. In most applications some of these concepts will be combined to give better overall performance. Technical advances will make passive solar system function event better. How far the technology advances to, will depend on how well passive solar systems become accepted. To further the use of solar energy an integrated approach will need to be taken. One which will combine the best of active and passive systems to produce a system that supplies 100% of the house's heating load. (Author)
