Abstract : The objective of this study was to determine the extent to which the FAA safety programs were aligned with the causes of general aviation accidents. The data base used in this study consisted of a total of 30,592 general aviation accident records compiled by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) from 1971 through 1977. Analysis of these records was made with respect to NTSB-cited cause/factors. FAA programs implemented during the study time period and pertaining to safety were also included in this study.
