Abstract : This report describes a study of the effects of ground shock from accidental explosions on structures and their contents. Semi-empirical equations for estimating peak air-blast induced and direct-induced ground shock motions are presented. The design implications of ground shock effects are discussed. The general conclusion is that ground shock effects are more critical to the vulnerability of persons or equipment within structures than for the vulnerability of structures per se. Recommended design procedures and suggestions for further study are presented.
