Abstract:

In May 2011, Congress tasked the Chairman of the Defense Science Board DSB to establish a Task Force on Department of Defense DoD Strategy to Counter Violent Extremism CVE Outside of the United States Task Force. The Task Force members were asked to assess the following areas of interest related to the DoDs CVE strategy outside of the United States 1. A review of the current strategy, research activities, resource allocations, and organizational structure of the DoD for CVE outside of the United States 2. A review of interagency coordination and decision making processes for executing and overseeing strategies and programs for CVE outside the United States 3. An analysis of alternatives and options available to the DoD for CVE outside of the United States 4. An analysis of legal, policy, and strategy issues involving CVE efforts outside of the United States as such efforts potentially affect domestic efforts to interrupt radicalization efforts within the United States 5. An analysis of the current DoD information campaign against violent extremists outside of the United States 6. Such recommendations for further action to address the matters covered by the report as the DoD considers appropriate and 7. Such other matters as the DSB determines relevant.
