Abstract : A simple thermodynamic criterion is proposed to predict the presence or absence of equilibrium intermetallic phases in a high entropy alloy at a given temperature T. The criterion was verified using 45 currently available HEAs, for which equilibrium phases and respective annealing temperature are reported. The present model shows good correlation with experiment and gives an improved ability to predict formation of solid solution and intermetallic phases compared to earlier models.
