Abstract : Aerial reconnaissance is a fundamental tool of national security, and an absolute necessity for the modern military commander. Access to space-based communications, position and timing technology has shaped the form and function of modern aerial reconnaissance, but has also created a dependency on space that makes the enterprise extremely vulnerable. This study critically analyzes how western powers might continue to conduct aerial reconnaissance in an environment where space-based assets are either degraded, denied or destroyed.
