Abstract : The first part of this project aimed at investigating the ETC process experimentally in the VKI Plasmatron facility on basic test materials such as graphite with a work function of approximately 4.5 eV. A provisional test design was used for testing in the Plasmatron facility and several interesting observations could be made during this first initial test campaign. The next steps towards an improved setup would be a better electrical insulation at higher temperatures (such as alumina, up to 1500 C)and a graphite collector to avoid pollution of the copper coil during each test run. Such a setup would require an electride material with lower work function instead of graphite as it is planned for future testing.
