Abstract : The 2015 Materials Research Society Spring Meeting was held April 6-10 in San Francisco, CA. The scientific sessions included many emergent areas of materials research as well as some well-established ones. The frequent occurring overlap of topics among the various clusters is a manifestation of the inter- and cross-disciplinary of contemporary materials science and engineering. Symposium FF brought together materials scientists with expertise in synthesis and processing, characterization of defects and interfaces, structure-property correlations and modeling to address critical issues in novel semi-conductor structures needed for next-generation systems. These systems include microelectronic and optoelectronic devices and smart sensors which are of critical importance to the needs of US Army. Research reported in Symposium GG supports the development of new intelligence systems, biologically strong and lightweight materials, advanced electronics, and sustainable catalysts.
