Abstract : We have determined that one monoclonal antibody cloned from the memory B cell population of the mother of a child with ASD binds Caspr2. This antibody disrupts fetal brain development and leads to an ASD-like phenotype in the offspring. Forty percent of women with brain-reactive serology and a child with ASD exhibit antibodies to Caspr2; thus this antibody may contribute to approximately 5 of cases of ASD.
