Abstract : Fielded and future military systems are increasingly incorporating composite materials into their design. Many of these systems subject the composites to environmental conditions that can cause variations of the mechanical properties on the global scale due to phenomena on the micro-structure. Do to the nature of these problems, one cannot assume a homogenized set of material properties in critical regions, where increased accuracy is needed to capture the complex stress field. The focus of this presentation is the incorporation of non-linear material properties into the simulation. To capture the effects of the microstructure from these composites more effectively, the multi-scale enriched partition of unity method is modified to incorporate the non-linear response from the micro-scale.
