Abstract : This report considers a coherent (instead of noncoherent) modulation such as an M-ary phase-shift keying (MPSK) and M-ary quadrature amplitude-shift keying (MQAM) for a slow frequency hopping (FH) spread spectrum (SS) system because, recently, coherent modulation has been the candidate for a future satellite FH waveform. Then, the PI found an exact symbol error rate (SER) expression for the FH system under partial-band tone jamming (PBTJ) and Rician fading environments through analysis. In addition, the PI studied the optimal weighting coefficients for each hop interval to minimize the SER. Furthermore, the PI derived an implicit expression of the optimal PBTJ fraction ratio, which maximizes the SER of the FH system and compares the analytical results with the numerical results for verification. The results shown here can be useful for the design of future efficient game theoretic FH satellite and mobile communications systems when a coherent FH modulation is employed under severe fading as well as severe PBTJ environments.
