Abstract : The purpose of this research is to investigate a novel therapeutic approach to prevent PTOA by treating mitochondrial dysfunction in chondrocytes resulting from an intraarticular injury. To date, we have shown that all of the drugs targeting mitochondrial mechanotransduction and oxidant production that we have tested are chondroprotective to some degree. We are currently awaiting pig model sacrifices upon completion of the 6- and 12- month time points.
