Abstract : A program was undertaken to continue development of a water-displacing temporary corrosion preventive for use on naval aircraft. The purpose of this preventive is to protect aluminum surfaces and crevices exposed to water at defects in the paint films until maintenance painting can be effected. Previous work has resulted in a formulation, JDP 40, containing a petroleum sulfonate, a phosphate ester, and a microcrystalline wax. In the present program, work was directed towards improvement of the JDP 40 formulation, and also investigation of other water-displacing and corrosion-preventive materials. Various surface-active materials, chelating agents, and metallo-organic compounds were tested. (Author)
