Abstract : Wind-tunnel tests were conducted to investigate the feasibility of using the measured shed vorticity frequency originating from a cylinder as a means of accurately determining the velocity of a fluid and its rate of change. Static pressure variations across the top and bottom of the cylinder surface, which were measured, are directly associated with the shed vorticity. The shed vorticity frequency is known to vary directly with velocity. Tests were conducted to calibrate the instrument and to evaluate its operational limitations in pitch and yaw. The results obtained indicate that the instrument is highly feasible for determining velocity and its rate of change. (Author)
