Abstract : A new two-channel photostimulator and a jolting device are described which will greatly facilitate the recording of the spectral response curves of single receptors in the carp retina. The new photostimulator is equipped with two light beams, each of which can be independently altered in size, wavelength, intensity, position and timing. The combination of these parameters provides a wide variety of illumination modes. The stimulator is also capable of automatically scanning the retina with monochromatic light adjusted to equal quanta throughout the visible spectral range. The jolting device was remodelled from the original electromagnetic type to a dynamic type which permits illumination of the retina from the vitreous side while recording with micropipets applied from the receptor side. The alterations in equipment design resulted from the previous studies which are currently being repeated. (Author)
