Abstract : Prototype bladders were built and tested for N2H4/UDMH and N2O4 applications. An all elastomeric bladder material was used for the/UDMH. For N2O4, a composite of elastomer-Al foil was investigated. Propellant testing of elastomers showed that EPR is the best elastomer for N2H4/UDMH expulsion bladder applications. Fabrication and evaluation of rubber bladders are described. An EPR bladder was fabricated and subjected to one month storage, vibration, sloshing, temperature cycling and 40 complete expulsion cycles. The production of wrinkle-free Al foil bladder liners by air forming and ultrasonic welding is discussed. Techniques for annealing and locating and repairing pinholes in the foil are described. Methods of applying a butyl rubber coating to the foil liner and test results of a composite bladder with N2O4 are reported. (Author)
