Abstract : Oxygen difluoride (OF2) is a space-storable oxidizer considered useful for high performance spacecraft propulsion systems. Ozone fluoride (O3F2) when dissolved at very low concentrations in liquid oxygen, renders this oxidizer hypergolic with liquid hydrogen and many other fuels. This mixture is considered feasible for rocket applications. Before these oxidizers can be used extensively in propulsion systems for long range missions, their compatibility with materials of construction must be evaluated and hardware reliability must be established. This report contains quantitative information on the corrosion characteristics of carefully controlled conditions. The methods used to determine impact sensitivity, static immersion corrosion rates, susceptibility to stress corrosion, corrosion in flowing liquids, and effects of weldments and impurities on corrosion are described and the results of tests are presented in a form that should be useful to missile and rocket engineers. Also included is a brief survey of the literature dealing with the limited compatibility experience with these oxidizers. (Author)
