Abstract : Various systems for embedding Manganin wire-insulator combinations in aluminum have been examined and tested to pressures of about 130 kbar. Results are characterized by either early gage failure (less than 1 mu sec) or lack of correlation with expected profiles. Manganin in Hi-D glass transducers were developed with a sensitivity of about 0.25 v/kbar and with a shock impedance matching aluminum at 100 kbar to with about 18 percent. Peak pressure response was found to be 20 percent less than that of Manganin in C-7 epoxy; pressure-resistance hysteresis response was equal to that of Manganin in C-7 epoxy. Transducers of Manganin in polyethylene and a Manganin-Mylar foil in tungsten constructed for GUM DROP Project 8.41 are described. (Author)
