Abstract : Alloys of molybdenum, niobium, tantalum, and tungsten, have found application as heat resistant materials in the construction of combustion engines(turbines) and in rocket technology. Molybdenum and tungsten are used in the production of shields for the protection from heat radiation, and tantalum - in the production of electrolytic condensers. Alloys of tungsten and of rhenium are used in thermocouples, and tungsten is used for electric bulb filaments. It was determined that, by comparison with other metals, even with graphite or with ceramics-metal compositions, alloys of the heat-resistant metals (molybdenum, niobium, tantalum and tungsten) are superior, because, among their other qualities, they are resistant to sudden temperature changes and to impact loads, and they are easier to fabricate and to machine.
