Abstract : The report presents a study of power subsystems which are capable of application to a military communications satellite. Included are a survey of the power subsystems applicable to the stated mission, analysis of those subsystems which indicate potential, and comparison of the performance of the subsystems with a rather limiting set of constraints arising from the consideration of the mission. The major conclusions of the study are that every effort should be made to keep the power requirements small and that the prime candidates for application to a military communications satellite are: (1) photovoltaic, (2) isotope thermoelectric (Cm244), (3) isotope thermoionic (Cm244), and (4) panel-mounted solar thermoelectrics.
