Abstract : The objective of this program is to investigate rf interaction circuits and stagger-tuning techniques leading to at least a 50% improvement in the 1 db bandwidth of high-power klystrons over the current state-of-the-art. In this report, the computer program used to predict the small-signal gain vs. frequency response of stagger-tuned klystrons is described. Modifications of the program to extend its use to calculations involving extended-interaction resonators and double-tuned resonators are also described. Comparisons between experimentally measured gains and bandwidths of two conventional klystrons and the theoretical predictions of this program are presented. It is seen that the prediction of gain variation with frequency is very good. (Author)
