Abstract : Investigation of heat resistant organic and inorganic polymers potentially useful as metal coatings to 1000 F continued. Among the inorganics, interest centered on organo-silicon-oxygen, organo-silicon-nitrogen and organo-phosphorus polymers. Emphasis was placed on defining parameters which allow the preparation of white, integral, tightly adherent siliceous coatings stable at 1000 F in air. Polymers which degrade to stable inorganic residues offer promise as coatings for extended exposure at 1000 F in air than do organic polymers. A TiO2 pigmented silicon resin with optimum pigmentation and coating thickness gave a white, adherent, integral, stable coating after 1000 F in air. Aryloxysilane and aromatic phosphate polymers appear promising for utility in inert atmospheres at 1000 F. Silazane polymers showed some promise. (Author)
