Abstract : The subject of improved antenna resolution has been studied in many contexts. Efforts have been made to determine theoretical bounds to resolvability based on the details of the aperture illumination, the characteristics of the targets, and the use of non-linear processing. The fundamental premise made in this study is that signal-to-noise ratio may be traded for antenna resolution in a linear data processing scheme. This means that if sufficiently strong signals are available, resolution much finer than that predicted by conventional antenna theory can be achieved. This report describes: the existent state of the theory, the plans and objectives of the research, the antenna systems which are to be used in the study, the modifications to the computer programs which have been incorporated to accomplish the design, a problem that has been uncovered which affects the design, and the theoretical solutions of the latter currently being investigated.
