Abstract : An opinion survey was conducted through questionnaires distributed to one hundred and ten Navy Nurses at a large naval hospital. Sixty-two questionnaires were returned by the respondents; sixty were completed. An attempt was made to identify the managerial problem areas most frequently encountered by the Navy charge nurse and the factors which contributed to these problems. The study suggested that the major managerial problem areas are interpersonal relationships, communications, and staffing. Problems of a lesser degree identified were orientation programs for new Nurse Corps officers, interdepartmental relationships, non-nursing tasks, plans and policies, and the area of supervision.
