Abstract : A unified matrix method of deriving and solving differential equations and mechanical impedance equations for a forced vibration system with n-degrees of freedom is developed and used to obtain and solve the governing differential and impedance equations of the Bearing Interaction Machine, an experimental tool developed by this Laboratory to provide information on bearing-machine vibration problems currently facing the Navy. The solutions obtained are compared to experimental data and verify the use of internally generated vibration forcing functions and mechanical impedance theory to predict actual machinery vibration levels.
