Abstract : Evidences obtained from high purity MgAl2O4 ceramics deformed at high temperatures are presented which confirm theoretically predicted multiple (111) (110) slip systems for spinel. Stress-strain and kinetic data and microstructural examinations indicate that spinel, when sufficiently pure, does meet the Taylor-von Mises criterion for generalized plastic flow of a polycrystalline solid.
