Abstract : The present concept of solid organic thin film lubrication is reviewed. The application of octadecylamine hydrochloride (ODA-HC1) to electric connector contacts was optimized by the inclusion of a heating step to consolidate the solution-deposited film, improving its adhesion, appearance and even, slightly, its frictional forces. A minimum film thickness for effective lubrication with good durability was found to exist for various surface finishes. (Author)
