Abstract : The three disciplines of mechanical fastening, adhesive bonding, and brazing are examined for their application to the problem of attachments in brittle nonmetallic materials. The ultimate objective of this program was to provide information for attachments of aluminum oxide and titanium diboride aerospace components. A method for quantitative comparison of joints was proposed. Various joints were studied using this method and the results compared with work of previous investigators. Significant advances in the art of brazing the two refractory nonmetallics were accomplished. (Author)
