Abstract : The hydrodynamic characteristics of alternative designs proposed for the AN/AQS-8 sonar housing were investigated to determine their ability to fulfill specified design objectives. Roll, pitch, yaw rate, towstaff angle, and cable tension were measured during basin tests of full-scale models. The results show that none of the proposed designs meet all of the objectives.
