Abstract : Lead, indium, cadmium, calcium, and three ironnickel alloys were investigated as pressure sensing materials for a low pressure (5 to 25 kbar) piezoresistive transducer. A configuration that employs a vacuum-deposited film piezoresistive element was tested and found practical. The calcium transducer, which uses a vacuum-deposited calcium element and Hi-D glass insulator, appears promising after a preliminary test. The heat flow between the insulator and the piezoresistive element was calculated; the results of this calculation indicate that timedependent corrections to the resistance-time profile are required for certain piezoresistive material-insulator combinations.
