Abstract : The effectiveness of the beryllium oxide pulsesensitive squib as protection against radio frequency electromagnetic fields has been evaluated. Input impedance, pulse firing sensitivity, and radio frequency firing sensitivity were measured. A Bruceton analysis of pulse firing characteristics was carried out. Pulse-firing tests showed 'all-fire' (99%) at 256.8 volts, 'no-fire' (1%) at 90.4 volts, and 50% firing level at 173.6 volts. Radio frequency firing test results were inconclusive due to large variations in sensitivity among individual units. One unit fired at 0.41 watts input, while another survived without dudding at 50.4 watts input. (Author)
