Abstract : A digital computer program for computing the probability of detecting a target by an acquisition radar is described within this report. The theory utilized is that reported by J. I. Marcum. The report discusses Marcum's theory and its application to the computer program. The probability of detection is calculated for both single scan and cumulative probability for a ballistic target or aircraft on a point-by-point basis until a predetermined level is achieved. The radar cross section of the target, antenna gain patterns, and sensitivity time control are utilized as functions rather than as fixed input parameters. Ballistic trajectory data are read into the computer from peripheral magnetic tape units, while aircraft flight paths are machine generated internally. (Author)
