Abstract : The additiono of NaCl to aqueous solutions of vinyl monomers containing NaBH4 as the catalyst increased the speed of forming a water-insoluble polymer on electrolysis. The quantity of electricity required to convert coatings of vinyl monomers containing NH4Br as the electrochemical catalyst to a polymer is approximately 20 milliams-sec/sq cm. The positive imaging system based on the electroreduction of ferrous salts in monomer coatings requires only 5 milliams-sec/sq cm to prevent the formation of polymer by subsequent treatment with dilute H2O2. The photocurrents produced from the sandwich system consisting of a photoconductive and a monomer coating were increased as the resistivity of the monomer coating decreased. The photocurrents obtained from photoconductive coatings varied as the pigment-to-resin ratio was changed, but the magnitude of these changes was not great. The program of synthesizing and evaluating new monomers was brought to a close after the preparation of a number of N-alkyl acrylamides, N-alkyl diacrylamides, and N,N'-bisacrylamides. (Author)
