Abstract : This informal publication highlights the basic facts about hydrogen peroxide and its safe handling. It is intended as a means of acquainting you with the nature of this material, and with the methods and procedures necessary for keeping and handling it with complete safety. This is a vital material in its military application. Extensive time, effort, and government funds have been expended on hydrogen peroxide research. It is dangerous only when carelessly handled, or when its hazard potential is ignored or unknown. Many existing fears concerning the nature of hydrogen peroxide are groundless. A thorough knowledge of what it is, what it does, and how to handle it, will dispel these fears. Hydrogen peroxide, in itself, is not dangerous. If it is not allowed to become over-heated or contaminated, it may remain in a safe condition for long periods of time, even for years. Personnel who are responsible for the safe handling of this material should make a habit of adequate vigil; and should be prepared at all times for quick, corrective action, if the need for such action is discovered.
