Abstract : Clear and pigmented films of various vehicles were irradiated in air with a mercury arc lamp and attenuated total reflectance spectra were obtained before and after irradiation. The films included alkyd, vinyl-alkyd, vinyl, epoxy-amine, and epoxy-polyamide vehicles. Most of the major peaks in the ATR spectra decreased on irradiation, but some were unaffected and some peaks increased in intensity. The changes in the spectra of pigmented films were usually similar but less pronounced. This work is part of a study to discover better accelerated test methods for coatings. (Author)
