Abstract : The report is dividied into two parts: Part I contains a brief discussion by the analyst of the possible trend of Soviet developments regarding the use of ballistic installations for the solution of problems pertaining to reentry, spacecraft materials testing, and meteorite hazard. Also contained in Part I is a description of a Soviet aeroballistic range and information on a microparticle accelerator and impact phenomena. Most of the information pertinent to Part I appears as appendices to the report. Part II consists of information on various subjects in fields closely allied to aeroballistic range studies, i.e., shock-tube investigations and related instrumentation. This part of the report serves as an indication of Soviet trends and capabilities in the various areas discussed. The appendices appearing at the end of the report consist entirely of reproduced copies of articles of interest which have previously been published in various periodicals in full English translation. As the articles are self-explanatory, very little mention or discussion is made of them in the text of the report. (Author)
