Abstract : The advent of artifical satellites makes it desirable to be able to use measurements of the angular dependence of diffusely reflected sunlight from a planetary atmosphere to deduce the physical properties of the atmosphere. In this discussion it is shown that a combination of invariant imbedding and quasilinearization may be used for this purpose. Some illustrative numerical results are provided.
