Abstract : The development of a VHF ridged horn was prompted by the fact that the ridged horn has greater gain over most of the frequency band than does a log-periodic antenna, and because the ridged horn is better suited for use in an array because of the reduced mutual coupling between antennas. This report describes the design, development, fabrication and electrical performance of a lens-corrected, doubly-ridged VHF horn (50 to 500 Mc). The horn was constructed from Fiberglas-reinforced plastics and polyurethane foam. The doubleconvex circular lens was constructed from building blocks of nesting polyurethane-foam modules. A metal film was deposited on the horn and lens by means of a flame-spraying technique. (Author)
