Abstract : It is demonstrated that the efficiency tracing method for the standardization of pure beta emitters with pi beta-gamma coincidence apparatus may be extended to nuclide pairs which are not amenable to mixing by compound formation. The mixi5g may be accomplished by adsorption of the two species on a matrix of colloidal silica or graphite particles on the source mount. By varying the mass of the matrix, it is possible to produce sources of a range of counting efficiencies. It is further demonstrated that by means of various external absorber foils placed on both sides of one mixed source, the counting efficiency may be varied to obtain an efficiency function equivalent to that obtained with a series of sources through self-absorption.
