Abstract : A photopolymerization process having high photographic speed remains the ultimate objective of this research. Newly available monomers, such as diacrylamide, triacrylformal and acrylated gelatin have been incorporated in photopolymerizable coated layers. Photographic speed was generally highest when monomer concentration was greatest. Some of the compositions evaluated were sensitive to the light source of a photographic enlarger. Several vinyl monomers have been prepared for the first time. N-acrylyl pyrrolidone exhibits good photographic speed in a coated layer. 3 N-acrylamidobenzaldehyde has been synthesized. It is of interest as a starting material for the preparation of 3 N-acrylamido mandelic acid or 3,3'di-N-acrylamidobenzilic acid. Several organic compounds which act as oxygen scavengers have been added to photopolymerizable compositions made sensitive to light with ferric ammonium oxalate. Best photographic speed increase resulted from the addition of N-phenyliminodiacetic acid. (Author)
