Abstract : N ORDER TO DEVELOP AN ELECTROMAGNETIC SCATTERING MODEL FOR THE TURBULENT WAKE, A SUITABLE AUTOCORRELATION FUNCTION OR POWER SPECTRAL DENSITY OF THE ELECTRON DENSITY INHOMOGENEITIES IS CHOSEN THAT BEST CHARACTERIZES THE TURBULENT MEDIUM. In an attempt to arrive at the auto correlation function of the electron density fluctuations it has been the practice to use the form of the autocorrelation function of the neutral density fluctuations as determined by measurements in the laboratory using Schlieren techniques. This report describes the initial phase of an experimental program to study the spectral distribution of the charged and neutral particles in a weakly ionized, thermally produced, turbulent flow. An electrostatic ion probe and a microwave electron probe were used to examine the spectrum of the ions and electrons in the flow. The results indicate that the spectrums of the electron and positive ion fluctuations in the turbulent plasma are identical. (Author)
