Abstract : The mathematical models to be used for both prediction and measurement of mean maintenance time (MMT) were developed and found to be consistent with the procedures employed by other services; however, certain mathematical deviations had to be made to conform with applicable density functions. The test of adequacy and effectiveness was performed in conjunction with the AN/SPS-10 radar. The results of the trial show that the procedures are feasible for use. Accuracy is dependent upon the precision of maintenance time input data required to implement the model. Repair time data available in handbooks for use with electronic equipment were found to be adequate. Data for mechanical and electrical systems had to be derived from samples of raw failure reports. It is desirable that such data sources be analyzed and reduced to handbook form in order to facilitate maintainability predictions for mechanical and electrical systems. (Author)
